Fedora Media Writer is a program for creating a bootable USB flash drive with Linux Fedora. It was created by the developers of the distribution and is intended for targeted work with it.
Fedora Media Writer can also work with other Linux distributions. It can write Linux Mint and Ubuntu images to the drive. You can run other distributions on your computer from the finished flash drive.
The program is quite convenient – both in format and functionality. It can download the Linux Fedora image on its own, including official builds. These can be distributions with graphical shells KDE, MATE, etc. The convenience for the user is that when creating a bootable flash drive, a person does not have to download the system image in advance. The program will do everything on its own. At the same time, it is possible to use ready-made images that are pre-downloaded by the user.
The program is available on several system platforms at once:
- Windows.
- Mac OS.
- Linux.
In the latest version, the software is opened only using DNF from the Fedora distribution. If the user has a different build on the computer, but at the moment the developers have not provided any possibility of launching.
Now you can start working with the program itself. Since the main task is to create a boot drive, this process will be considered. As an example, the standard version of the distribution in the GNOME environment will be shown:
- When you launch the program, the working environment menu will be displayed on the screen. You need to select the “Load automatically” section.
- The program will prompt you to select a source for downloading the distribution. You can select “Official versions”. In the context menu, leave “Fedora Workstation”.
- Then you need to specify the recording parameters. In the standard version, you can leave the version “39”. Next, you specify the hardware architecture, a suitable drive installed in the system.
- Select “Download and Burn”.
The program will automatically start downloading the required distribution. While the process is in progress, the user can check the drive. After the download is complete, the files will automatically start writing to the flash drive. When finished, the “Completed” notification will appear on the screen.
The image itself is stored on the hard drive and requires additional space. After recording, it can be deleted. When the drive is ready, you need to click on “Close” in the program and continue working with the USB drive.
